In the 1990s, a Japanese scientist by the name of Dr. Masaru Emoto ran a series of experiments to see what the physical effects of the written and spoken words and intentions might have on the molecular structure of water.

By exposing water to different variables and then freezing it until crystalline structures formed, Emoto could better understand how water transforms when exposed to positive and negative emotions.

“Water is the mirror of the mind.” - Dr. Masaru Emoto

In one experiment, Emoto taped different words, either positive or negative, on jars filled with water. These written words resembled human intentions.

Below are four pictures each labeled with the intention to which it was exposed (see caption). From Emoto’s work, you can see that water exposed to love-based intentions such as benevolence and gratitude resulted in beautiful crystalline structures, while water exposed to fear-based intentions created marred, unattractive, and seemingly disfigured structures.

Clockwise From Top Left: Love & Gratitude; You Disgust Me; Evil; Thank You

This also applies to toxic water. The picture below on the left is an image of polluted dam water, while the image on the right is what it became after being exposed to the spoken word of a Buddhist prayer.

The same results were concluded after exposing water to certain types of music. You might guess that classical music generated beautiful crystalline structures while heavy metal created the opposite.

Now, why does any of this matter?

Because the human body is comprised of over 70% water.

Words and intentions carry energy in the form of an emotional charge, and that emotional charge—positive or negative—affects every cell in the body.

So, if intention and sound (through music or the spoken word) have the capacity to empower or disempower, the words you think and/or say aloud have the capacity to elevate you or depress you.

If you don’t believe me you can try your own experiment using rice, since rice absorbs water.

Crystallizing Your Own Wellbeing

So now we know that thoughts and sounds have vibrational energy that affect your wellbeing. Got it. So what do we do now?

Well, if you don’t like the music that’s playing, you simply change the station.

To crystallize your own wellbeing from disempowered to empowered, you need to first notice the “music” (i.e., intentions, thoughts, spoken words) you’re listening to because awareness is half the battle in anything. From there, it’s a matter of execution.

I’m not gonna lie, this takes work. It takes vigilance to your own thoughts and intentions behind those thoughts, constant self-monitoring, and a strategy to stay on the right (mental) station.

This is also how I help clients as a coach. If you’re disciplined and experienced enough to do things right while also doing the right things and course correct along the way, hey, more power to you. If, however, you might benefit from an accountability partner then a coach is the way to do.

However, here are a few other strategies you might try:
